Two points of note in this article:
A new fly fishing movie, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, is set to be released in March.
Also, while filming the movie, Ewan McGregor taught Emily Blunt some fly fishing skills. She didn't catch any fish, but she did catch his dog (just the fur).

They recently announced that they are now catering to fly fishers. From April to October, you can fish for native brown trout with an experienced local fly fishing guide while the rest of your group is visiting museums. Perfect.
Good blog post by Kirk Deeter about two opposing, yet subtly similar mistakes many fly fishers make.
It's important to find the fine line between trying to force a fish to do what you want and not putting enough effort into making your fly (especially streamers) attractive. Consider the water and the fish before you decide what fly to use, but don't leave your fly to dead drift and expect the fish to care.
Streamers especially are most effective when you give them some good action - make 'em wiggle.
Dave Coulson, an avid Colorado fly fisher, discusses fly tying as one of the pleasurable hobbies to explore within the already pleasurable hobby of fly fishing. He describes how he has fun tying flies on cold winter nights and explains exactly why fly tying is not a money-saving endeavor.
The latest version of Streamflow Plus includes Google map views.
Version 1.3 (released October 2011) has a Map tab that combines USGS gaging station locations with standard and satellite map views.
You can view the gaging stations near your current location or select a station from your Favorites. The map will automatically update. Touch any station and see its current readings on the interactive graph.
At least according to Robert Younghanz, Colorado fly fishing guide, instructor, and self-described aquatic entomologist.
This is a good article about the importance of knowing your bugs. Robert says understanding basic entomology helps fly fishermen feel more confident on the water. Pick your flies based on the science and you'll know you tried your best, even if you don't catch anything.
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, a British comedy/romance starring Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt, and Kristen Scott Thomas, debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday (9/10) night. The film received mostly positive reviews that included words like - charming, delightful, chipper and quick-witted.
CBS bought the distribution rights earlier this week, so it looks like Salmon Fishing will make it into U.S. theaters at some point.
The movie is based on Paul Torday's novel of the same name. It's the story of a British government fisheries scientist who finds himself reluctantly involved in a fly-fishing-loving Yemeni sheikh's grand plan to introduce salmon into his country's waters. The sheikh fell in love with fishing at his estate in Scotland and wants his people to be able to fish too.
Hilarity, romance, and hopefully awesome fly fishing footage ensues.
Trout Unlimited is trying to clear out their warehouse before the end of their fiscal year and raise money for conservation causes at the same time. They've lowered prices on rods, reels, vests, bags, flies, hats, and more to close to retail. The liquidation ends on September 30.

It seems feather hair extensions have made it all the way to the East Coast.
Flooding in May and June plus a record snowpack in the mountains that is still melting add up to bad news for early season fly fishing in Montana.
On Friday night, July 1, an ExxonMobil pipeline running underneath the Yellowstone River near Billings, Montana ruptured and leaked crude oil into the river for approximately 30 minutes. The leak was noticed around 11:30 PM and the 12-inch pipeline was shut down within a half an hour.
Residents of Laurel, Montana, 15 miles upstream of Billings, were evacuated from their homes early Saturday morning because of oil fumes. They were allowed to return the same day.
ExxonMobil had cleanup crews in place on Saturday.
The Yellowstone River is the longest undammed river in the lower 48 and prime habitat for brown, rainbow, and native cutthroat trout. Yellowstone National Park is upstream of Billings, so the oil spill won't affect Park waters.
More updates to come...
Fly tying hackle, of course.
The long, supple rooster feathers that have been a fly tying staple for 100 years are now the latest trend in hair styling.
When celebrities like Steven Tyler, Miley Cyrus, and Lady Gaga started wearing feather hair extensions, they created a fashion craze for tweens to 20-somethings and a big problem for fly tyers. Hair salons all over the country are buying up hackle from fly shops to meet their clients' demand for the newly-chic hair accessories.
The result is higher prices and reduced supply for fly fishermen.
